Ohio State kicker transferring to MAC school

It’s been a bit of an odd career arc for Ohio State kicker Jake Seibert. When he committed to OSU, he was known as one of the best kickers in the country. In fact, he was rated as the No. 2 kicker in the entire 2020 class. There were many — coaches included — who probably thought he was the kicker of the future for the Buckeyes.

When Seibert arrived in Columbus however, things didn’t go according to plan. He made one field goal, a 23-yarder in the national championship game vs. Alabama in 2020, and was thought to be the main option coming back in 2021, but that’s when Noah Ruggles entered the equation as a transfer from North Carolina and took over the placekicking duties. Seibert also made a total of 16 extra points during his time as a Buckeye but was used very sparingly.

Now, Seibert will be seeking to hit the reset button at Northern Illinois, he announced on social media Tuesday. He still has three seasons of eligibility left for a little MACtion magic.

We of course wish Seibert nothing but the best at his new school and hope he fulfills the promise he had when he came out of high school.
