Ohio State basketball wins first game of season over Robert Morris

The Ohio State basketball team opened up its 2022-2023 campaign on Monday night without too much drama to speak of. In fact, the Buckeyes ran away with the game in the second half to easily take care of Robert Morris 91-53.

There was a sort of feeling out in the beginning as the Colonials were able to match OSU with hot shooting from the outside, but that changed midway through the first 20 minutes when the Buckeyes closed the half on a 29-13 run to head into the locker room up 42-28.

The Buckeyes continued the run in the second half and left little doubt about the outcome. Justice Sueing in his first action since early last season paced Ohio State with 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting that included 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. Sueing also led OSU with three steals.

But it wasn’t just Sueing who poured in double figures. Zed Key started the game off with one of his two 3-point field goals for the game and went on to put together a very efficient day on 4-of-5 shooting. He finished with a double-double, scoring 13 points and ten rebounds.

Freshman Brice Sensabaugh — as well as Tanner Holden — also reached double figures with 17 and 12 points respectively. All told, nine Buckeyes scored and a lot of it was from beyond the arc. The team knocked down 10-of-21 (47.6%) 3-pointers for the contest.

Also encouraging was the amount of sharing that took place Monday. The team totaled a whopping 18 assists, getting everyone involved. There will be greater challenges ahead, but game one is definitely something all the new faces can build upon.

Ohio State will next be in action against Charleston Southern at home on Thursday.
