Pre-season continued for the Gunners today with their first official friendly of the summer. Mikel Arteta has overseen his squad in the German town of Herzogenaurach and put them through their paces against 2. Bundesliga side Nurnberg.
Arsenal fans were able to see Kai Havertz make his debut from the bench although the game came too soon for the still to-be-confirmed new signings Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber. The previously injured William Saliba did feature after returning to training and a number of late calls were made on the inclusion of the Gunners’ internationals, among which was Bukayo Saka but Martin Odegaard pulled out from the line-up with a knock before kick-off.
Saka put Arsenal ahead early on before Folarin Balogun hit the post in the second half. Jorginho’s bizarre own goal made it 1-1 in what was a pretty disappointing second-half display from the Gunners.
