Nov 17, 2025: Toxic air stains Delhi’s heritage

Air pollution impacts heritage sites too. In September, a report pointed to black crusts on the walls of the Red Fort. In 2018, the Supreme Court said that the Taj Mahal had turned yellow and greenish-brown due to air and water pollution.

On Monday, Newslaundry visited the Lotus Temple and found parts of its white petal walls showing yellow and black stains. The AQI at the nearest monitoring station pegged the air quality at 243 whereas our own air monitor found that it stood at 378.
