Notts County issue statement after Magpies fan alleged to have abused Barnet player

Notts County are cooperating with police after a Magpies supporter was alleged to have abused one of Barnet's players.

The incident occurred in front of the Kop shortly before half-time as the Bees prepared to take a corner during the Magpies' 6-1 win.

Barnet's players spoke to referee Matthew Dicicco as the game was delayed temporarily and the official also addressed Notts head coach Ian Burchnall and his opposite number Dean Brennan.

Fans were reminded by the stadium announcer that discriminatory language would not be tolerated as the referee warned that any further reported incidents would lead to the match being abandoned.

In a statement released on Twitter at half-time, Notts said the fan had been ejected.

"In line with our zero-tolerance approach to discrimination, a supporter has been ejected from Meadow Lane following a comment made at this evening's match," the statement said.

"We are cooperating with police to ensure the matter is dealt with appropriately."

Addressing the incident in his post-match press conference, Burchnall said: "As I understand it now, it is in the hands of the police.

"It was dealt with by the stewards and for us here it's not acceptable.

"We have a zero-tolerance and it's not what anybody wants to hear coming from the crowd.

"It's completely unacceptable and hopefully it's dealt with in the correct way."
