Every Tuesday, she meets up with friends and they go for a coffee. Ethel said: “There’s many coffee shops in Beeston but it’s good for others so they can get out and about. My friends and I go to a different café every Tuesday.”
Ethel continued: “I like Coffee and Cream, the Bendigo Lounge and Café 94. I try to stay away from the big brands and spend my money locally.” One of Beeston’s newer cafes is: the Yellow Wood Café. Yellow Wood on Chilwell Road in Beeston opened in October 2021. The café is open seven days a week and sells café classics.
Student Gracie Cowans, 22, who lives in Beeston said: “I take my laptop to a few of the coffee shops in Beeston, they’re never too loud which is nice. I like Cartwheel Coffee and I go to Café Nero quite a bit for a cappuccino.”
Gracie added: “You don’t think about it a lot but many high streets would be dead with coffee shops, people go in there to work, meet friends or have a coffee by themselves to kill time.”
On 120 Beeston High Road is the Metro Cafe. Owner, Sue Kudryk has run the shop for 10 years. She spoke about the family business.
Sue said: “There's a lot of people that come in here, we know by name. We’re a small coffee shop, our menu isn’t extensive but what we do sell is high quality stuff.”
Sue continued: “Beeston has loads of coffee shops, one of my favourites is Bistro 66. Here, our prices are fair and everyone’s welcome.”
At Metro where hot drinks are less than £3
Andy Davidson, 70, said: “I pop in from time to time, it’s cheap here and the staff are friendly. Beeston has many coffee shops but they all seem to do well. You can’t have too many coffee shops, especially if they’re all established and have their own regulars.”
