Nottingham Forest boosted as new name emerges in Brighton manager search

Nottingham Forest head coach Steve Cooper is not a name that appears on a reported shortlist to replace Graham Potter as the next Brighton and Hove Albion boss.

After guiding the Reds to promotion last season, Cooper had been linked with the vacancy opened up after Potter decided to swap the Seagulls for Stamford Bridge and Chelsea earlier this month. The Welshman had been as short as second-favourite to become the next Brighton boss at stages last week but has since drifted out to fourth favourite.

Lens head coach Franck Haise, who has the side sitting third in the French Ligue 1, is now the odd-on favourite as of Wednesday, with Mainz manager Bo Svensson and Bodø/Glimt boss Kjetil Knutsen all ahead of Cooper according to the bookies.

The Athletic are reporting that Svensson is indeed of interest to Brighton and on their shortlist to replace Potter. They also restate that former Shakhtar Donetsk head coach Roberto De Zerbi and Knutsen are also under consideration. There is, though, no mention of Cooper in their update on the situation nor one of apparent new frontrunner Haise.

Cooper currently has little more than a year to run on the two-year contract signed upon taking over last September. A contract extension for the Forest head coach has yet to be announced.
