Northern Rail's £1 train tickets - how to claim in first come first serve flash sale

The cost of living crisis continues to bite down on Brits, with many worried about the impending winter months due to skyrocketing energy bills.

For years now, train tickets have been ballooning in price, making the daily commute to work or weekend trips away all the harder for people.

In response, Northern Rail is offering a flash sale to its customers, with tickets going for just £1.

It’s on a first come, first serve basis though, so if you have any planned trips on the railways, now is the time to get your tickets.

The offer is open to all, and claiming is a simple process no different from buying any other tickets.

What is the Northern Rail flash sale?

On August 30 from 10am, commuters will be able to purchase tickets for just £1, between the dates of Tuesday, September 6 and Thursday, October 20.

More than 1,000,000 tickets are available to claim, though once they are gone, they're gone.

Customer and commercial director at Northern Rail, Mark Powles, said: “This is our way of helping to extend the summer holiday feeling by a further six weeks - getting people through until the start of the October half term.

“Whether it’s for a weekend in the historic city of Chester, a night out in Newcastle; a day at the seaside in Scarborough or a walking holiday in the Lake District – these fares will get you where you want to be for less.

“Tickets are on a first-come, first-serve basis – so those looking to take advantage of these great £1 fares should book early to avoid disappointment.

“When they’re gone, they’re gone.”

The tickets are available for online purchase, so only though the rail network’s official website.

To get your £1 tickets, you will need to purchase them on the Northern Railway website.

Each £1 ticket will need to be booked at least one week in advance.

The flash sale covers nearly 2,000 daily services offered by Northern Rail.

Between 5% and 10% of each train's capacity can be claimed for the £1 price, though each journey is calculated differently due to demand.

For example, some peak time trains have been excluded from the sale.

The sale kicks off at 10am and will only be available until stocks last.
