North Shields double death one week on: Investigations into tragedy on The Quadrant continues

Mystery still surrounds the death of a man and a woman one week after their bodies were found in a Tyneside home

Police are still investigating the double tragedy, following the the grim discovery, in North Shields, last Monday afternoon. The man in his 60s and woman in her 50s were both found dead after emergency services were called to a property on The Quadrant.

Police say both deaths are still being treated as "unexplained". There was a heavy police presence on the street for several days last week.

And on Monday evening, forensics officers, wearing white overalls, could be seen going in and out of the property. Police say the alarm was raised after a woman failed to turn up for work.

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: “At about 2.15pm on Monday, we received a report of concern for a woman after she failed to turn up for work. Officers attended her home address on the Quadrant, North Shields, and sadly found two occupants, a man in his 60s and a woman in her 50s, deceased.

“The deaths are currently being treated as unexplained and there is not believed to be any wider risk to the public."

Last week several bouquets of flowers were laid outside the cordoned off property. And neighbours told of their shock and confusion.

One resident said: “It’s absolutely awful, nobody knows what happened but it’s come as such a shock. I didn’t know them personally, but I would say hello if I saw her in the front garden when I was passing by. I just can’t believe what’s happened, it’s awful.”
