There is reportedly no record of ex footballer Jermain Defoe marrying Donna Tierney in the summer.
Concern was sparked earlier this month that the pair might have split just months after their lavish wedding in June, and now mystery surrounds the wedding ceremony itself.
The former Spurs and West Ham star sparked the rumours of separation after he spent the Christmas break on the Caribbean island of St Lucia while his wife Donna stayed at home in Glasgow with family.
Jermain, 40, has also been pictured without his wedding ring in snaps on social media and Donna, 40, has reverted to her maiden name Tierney across her own social media accounts.
She's also unfollowed her husband and both of the newlyweds have removed all pictures of their £200,000 June wedding.
The Sun reports that the local register officer has no record of Jermain and Donna getting married at Cliveden House in Berkshire, which it normally would.
The pair's wedding in featured in OK! magazine and on the front cover, but a source says that the pair had their own snapper at the wedding, rather than one from the publication.
The source said: “It’s all a mystery. They didn’t let the mag have their reporter and photographer at the wedding at Cliveden House.
"Instead, they had their own photographer and sent them the pictures, and then subsequently gave an interview to a reporter."
Jermain's reps responded no comment when approached by the Mirror.
Donna told the sun that the pair did marry, and she didn't know where the rumours had come from.
The Mirror has approached Donna for comment.
At the time of the wedding, Defoe said: "This is my future, this is forever, this is the person I want to spend the rest of my life with."
However it appears forever might not be on the cards for the pair.
Donna has reverted to her maiden name on social media and unfollowed her famous footballer husband. She also spent Christmas with family in Glasgow, with Jermain nowhere to be seen.
In posts on her Instagram account over the holidays, the 40-year-old brunette suggested she was happy to see the back of 2022 and looking forward to 2023 instead.
She also posted: "Some people will take you out of the rain and dry you off, some will stand with you and some will turn the rain into a hurricane."
The couple were last pictured together at a champagne party for Jermain's birthday eight weeks ago.
The pair first met in January 2021 with Jermain proposing just seven months later in an extravagant hotel proposal featuring "Marry me" with lights, heart-shaped balloons and rose petals before he got down on one knee to pop the question.
