'No, being honest' - Paul Scholes makes Manchester United admission ahead of Everton clash

Paul Scholes thinks Manchester United will have their work cut out to get a positive result against Everton this weekend.

The two North-West clubs will face off at Goodison Park on Sunday evening. Everton will be looking to build on back-to-back victories in the Premier League while United are still coming to terms with the 6-3 pasting they suffered at the hands of rivals Manchester City.

Erik Ten Hag's side were in Europa League action against Cypriot minnows Omonia Nicosia on Thursday evening and they had to rely on second-half substitute Marcus Rashford to help overturn a surprise 1-0 first-half deficit before going onto win 3-2. But despite ending the match as winners, United great Scholes was less than enthused by what he had seen and predicted a much tougher examination for his old club against Frank Lampard's side.

When asked on BT Sport if he had taken anything from the game that gave him confidence for Sunday, he said: "No, being honest I haven’t. I'm worried about the midfield area, they looked too open at times, Casemiro coming in - he brings control and composure - hasn’t got the legs to do it on his own. I think on Sunday if Casemiro plays, they’ll need to have someone right next to him whether that’s Fred or (Scott) McTominay.

"He’s played with Fred before and he’s got a good record because the back-four need protecting and the full-backs. (Tyrell) Malacia came off at half-time, that could be a sign (Luke) Shaw plays on Sunday. I think they’re vulnerable, I don’t think they’re great. I think Everton are a much better than the opposition we’ve seen tonight, if they get them types of chances they’ll score."

The Blues are currently riding high on confidence after winning their last two Premier League matches against Southampton and West Ham United. They are also unbeaten in their last six league outings. And should Everton beat United, they will leapfrog them in the table.
