Nick Kyrgios blames Wimbledon spectator ‘who’s had 700 drinks’ as he rants through final

Nick Kyrgios launched into one of his trademark rants after losing the second set of the men's Wimbledon final to Novak Djokovic.

This time however, his rage was aimed at himself before he turned his angst on a spectator who looked like 'she had had 700 drinks'. The explosive Australian came out on fire on Centre Court, breaking the Serbian en route to winning the first set 6-4.

However, the 20-time Grand Slam champion upped the ante in the second, and broke the Australian to love to set up a 5-3 lead. But just when he seemed well-placed to serve out the set, Kyrgios went for the jugular.

He went up 0-40 to fashion three break points, only for the top seed to save each of them one by one. The Canberra man then worked himself a fourth chance, only for Djokovic to again hold his nerve before winning the next two to seal a marathon game, and the set.

Clearly angry with himself for missing the opportunity, Kyrgios then repeatedly shouted "0-40" at himself as he vented his frustration. The scene continued when he returned to his chair, looking up towards his support box and screaming loudly.

Girlfriend Costeen Hatzi could be seen gesturing at him to calm down, while a stone-faced Djokovic did his best to avoid the drama. When the Australian re-emerged for the third set, he didn't appear to have regained full composure, frequently muttering at himself when losing points.

Piers Morgan, one of his most vociferous critics in these Championships, posted: "Oh-oh… Kyrgios is beginning to blow," whilst @Wellperformance added: "Kyrgios is using up so much emotional energy right now. Stuck in last shot, last set. Has to ground himself back to present. This shot. This moment."

@alabama_coast joked: "I want to read a transcript of what Kyrgios says during the match. Lay it out like a poem." @Isla_Skinner however, was less sympathetic, writing: "What was that rant about ? Honestly he should be reprimanded even if it's in a break - it’s not on."

It wasn't clear if Kyrgios used any expletives in his rant, but regardless, he was soon venting fury again, this time at the umpire. When serving to lead 3-2 in the third set, he was interrupted by crowd noise.

He won the game regardless, but then forcefully asked the umpire to remove the perpetrator: "We're in a Wimbledon final. It's nearly cost me the game," he argued.

When the official implied it was impossible to tell which member of the crowd it was, Kyrgios replied: "I know exactly which one it is. It's the one whose had like 700 drinks bro."

Again, Morgan was quick to stick the boot in, posting: "Kyrgios has stopped blaming his own player’s box supporters and is now blaming a woman spectator ‘who’s had like 700 drinks bro’ for distracting him."
