Newtownabbey theatre group share joy as they get set to put on Sister Act Jr production

Mossley Mill will be blessed by students from Uplift Performing Arts this March, as they get set to put on their “divine” production of Sister Act JR.

The musical - which tells the story of Deloris Van Cartier, a high-spirited singer who witnesses a murder and is forced to enter the Queen of Angels convent under witness protection - will provide a chance for local kids and teens to showcase their acting chops.

The stage production will be put on by local group, Uplift Performing Arts. The play is set to be shown on the 12 th of March for 2 shows, 2pm and 7.45pm, at the Theatre at the Mill.

Speaking at the joy of getting kids back onto the stage, director Sophie Greet told us: "UpLift has been running for over 10 years now and we do various productions throughout the year. The opportunity for doing Sister Act Jr .came up and it's something that our children have been really interested in. All the students are really excited and loved getting stuck into it."

After a difficult 18 months, Sophie said that now is the perfect time for putting something which is that bit more uplifting.

She continued: "Now is such a good time to do a feel-good musical, as the people involved haven't had a full production since before Covid, so everyone is excited to get back to rehearsals and back on stage after so long.

"We were able to do classes on Zoom over Covid, but it wasn't the same. There's nothing quite like being on the stage. And even for the young ones to just being there with their friends, getting to bounce off each other and work together there's nothing like."

Sister Act Jr is set to be performed on March 12th, with two showings throughout the days.

Tickets are £16 for adults and £14 for concessions. For more information on tickets: theatreatthemill.com
