Newcastle United supporters have vented their frustration after Nick Pope was shown a straight red card against Liverpool, with the Magpies goalkeeper now suspended for the Carabao Cup final against Manchester United.
Newcastle suffered a dire start at St James' Park during their Premier League clash against Liverpool. Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo put Jurgen Klopp's side 2-0 up inside the opening 17 minutes, exposing what has usually been such a reliable defence this term.
However, things quickly went from bad to worse for the home side when Pope was sent off for handling the ball outside of his box in the 22nd minute. Alisson launched a long kick over the top of the Newcastle defence in search of Mohamed Salah, but the Magpies' shot-stopper rushed out to prevent the Egyptian from latching onto the ball.

Yet in his haste, the 30-year-old dived and clutched the ball briefly with his hands - outside of the penalty area - as he looked to get his head on the ball instead. Anthony Taylor wasted no time in showing Pope a straight red card.
The sending off will also see Pope suspended for the Carabao Cup final at Wembley on February 26, Newcastle's next game. Martin Dubravka, who replaced Elliot Anderson following Pope's dismissal, is also ruled out of next Sunday's match due to his appearance vs Aston Villa in the competition while on loan at Manchester United.
It therefore means that Loris Karius is set to feature between the sticks against Erik ten Hag's side. As the news of Pope's Wembley absence filtered through, Newcastle fans took to social media to vent their frustration over the situation.
