Toon chiefs coy on Henderson
Those in power at St James’ Park are playing down suggestions Newcastle are about to sign Dean Henderson, ChronicleLive understands. Reports in the Manchester Evening News claim the Red Devils goalkeeper arrived on Tyneside yesterday to discuss a proposed loan move.
Henderson has not featured in the Premier League all season as David De Gea has improved to tighten his grip on the number one jersey at Old Trafford. With the World Cup just six months away, the 25-year-old will be keen to secure first-team football if he wants to force his way into Gareth Southgate’s plans.
Sources on Tyneside echo similar tones to Eddie Howe who, last week, played down suggestions of a lavish spending spree this summer. To read more, click here.

‘The sky's the limit’ - Matt Ritchie
Matt Ritchie believes Newcastle can become one of the biggest clubs in England. The £300million Saudi-backed takeover is reminiscent of Manchester City’s game-changing acquisition in 2008.
Sheikh Mansour’s wealth has transformed City from also-rans to Premier League dominators and Ritchie - who has only made one substitute appearance since December - expects the Magpies to reach similar heights in the coming years.
He told BoyleSports: "Who knows, the sky's the limit (for Newcastle). The manager talks about that a lot; don't ever put limits on yourselves or collectively so that's a huge message from him.
"I think we have to be very aware that we're in the best league in the world and many teams are wanting to achieve what we're trying to achieve so it'll take time - we have to manage that carefully because as all football fans, along with the media, they get carried away so the expectation needs to be managed. Certainly, in time, this club has the potential to be one of the biggest clubs in England again."
Sheringham urges Lingard move
Teddy Sheringham has urged Jesse Lingard to ditch Newcastle and join West Ham United. Rumours linking the Manchester United man with a move to Tyneside were rife in January but talks broke down amid a conversation with Ralf Rangnick.
The England international’s contract expires next month and a host of European clubs are vying for his signature. Lingard has cut a frustrated figure on the Old Trafford sidelines and a move offers him the chance to reignite a stalled career.
However, former Hammers striker Sheringham wants to see the 29-year-old return to East London - where he had a successful loan spell last season.
"I think he’s a good fit for West Ham and he’s done well for them before when he played on loan,” he told Genting Casino. “He’s missed a lot of football this season, but he was fantastic during his loan period."
