New on Steam: 'Homicipher' Challenges You to Decipher a Language in Order to Escape

Halloween might be over, but any day is a good day for a good horror video game, especially one that has "Overwhelmingly Positive" reviews on Steam.

Welcome back to New on Steam, a feature series here on Player.One where we talk about the newly released games on Steam.

Without further ado, let's get started on today's feature. What's new on Steam?

It's none other than Homicipher.

New on Steam: 'Homicipher'

Released on November 1, 2024, Homicipher is an atmospheric horror game that relies heavily on language decoding. It is developed by Yatsunagi and published by Gamera Gates.

You take on the role of a female protagonist who wakes up in a different world with a different language. In order to escape, you will have to decipher the language and even interpret gestures and expressions.

Homicipher is a point-and-click game, and you'll have to investigate items along the way. You'll also encounter some scary-looking male characters as you go on your journey.

System Requirements

The following are the minimum system requirements in order to play the game on your device:

  • OS: Windows 7 or greater
  • Processor: Intel i5 Quad-Core
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti
  • Storage: 2 GB available space

Early Steam Reviews

As of writing, Homicipher has more than 700 user reviews on Steam, which have been categorized as "Overwhelmingly Positive."

"I've been looking forward to this for a couple years now and it's everything I wanted," Steam user Kelaruj said in a review. "The language deciphering is really fun, and the characters are super cute."

"I love the aesthetic," Kelaruj added. "Everything is amazing."

"Love the different personalities of all the monsters," user Axiris said in a separate review. "The vibe of the game is well set up and genuinely gave me the creeps at certain points."
