MIAMI - This week has seen a remarkable surge in collaborations within the Latin music scene. Christian Nodal and Peso Pluma have united to create "La Intención," while the renowned duo of Maluma and J Balvin have introduced their latest hit, "Gafas Negras" (Black Sunglasses).
Both tracks received significant promotion, stirring considerable excitement. Meanwhile, "Faldas y Gistros" emerged as an unforeseen treat, brought to life by the talented trio of Justin Quiles, Lenny Tavarez and Anitta.
"La Intención" by Christian Nodal, featuring Peso Pluma is a fusion of classic corrido tumbado with a romantic yet edgier theme. Nodal, renowned for his mariacheño style—a blend of mariachi and norteño—brings a distinctive softness to the track, especially when handling the bemols (flats in musical terms) and the raw elements typical of corrido tumbado. Peso Pluma's contribution adds a contrasting, powerful edge, complementing Nodal's softer tones.
The collaboration between Justin Quiles, Lenny Tavarez and Anitta is the epitome of fun in urban music. While replicating the enormous success of "Envolver," a previous collaboration between Quiles and Anitta, might seem daunting, their new track "Faldas y Gistros" emerges as a more than worthy successor.
Unfortunately, Maluma and J Balvin seem too comfortable in "Gafas Oscuras." The song doesn't offer anything new other than another glimpse of the two biggest male stars from Medellín together.
