New favourite emerges for Phillip Schofield's This Morning job

A new favourite has emerged to replace Phillip Schofield on This Morning following his high profile departure from ITV. Schofield, 61, resigned from the broadcaster on Friday and was dropped by his talent agency YMU after admitting to an “unwise but not illegal” affair with a younger male colleague

After Schofield's departure from the show, attention turned to who will replace him on the sofa alongside Holly Willoughby - who is due to return to the show on Monday, June 5 following a break. Dermot O’Leary, Alison Hammond, Rochelle Humes, Rylan Clark and Josie Gibson are among those suggested as possible candidates as regular stand-ins on the show.

But bookmakers have now put Irish host Craig Doyle in the picture to replace the embattled 61-year-old Schofield long-term on the show.

Phillip Schofield’s fall from grace has been swift. The veteran TV star, who has admitted to an affair with a much younger male colleague while still married to his wife, has lost his high profile job on This Morning, his lucrative contract with ITV and his talent representation.

Doyle is a familiar face to many having filled in on This Morning previously. He is also the anchor of BT Sport's rugby coverage and has also appeared on other shows on both ITV and the BBC. He has emerged as the new 5/2 favourite to take over from Phillip Schofield alongside well-known face Rylan Clark (also 5/2).

ITV has instructed a barrister to carry out an external review of the facts following Phillip Schofield’s departure from This Morning and subsequent press statements, chief executive Dame Carolyn McCall has said in a letter seen by the PA news agency.

The letter was sent to culture secretary Lucy Frazer, DCMS Committee chair Dame Caroline Dinenage and Ofcom’s chief executive Dame Melanie Dawes, in the wake of Schofield’s departure from ITV last week.
