New dad stuns family by asking to move home on week nights because of his baby

Parents expect to lose sleep when they welcome a baby.

Even if it is not something they want to accept - it is a fact of life - it takes time for little ones to learn to sleep the whole night through.

But after struggling to cope, one dad took drastic measures to try and get some shut eye, asking his family to move home on a part-time basis.

The decision, which shocked his mum, came to light when she took to a parenting forum to ask for advice.

Posting on Mumsnet, the woman explained her conundrum in a post titled: "Adult son wants to move back mon-fri to 'get a night's sleep'."

She explained that her 27-year-old son recently welcomed a baby with his girlfriend. "As you’d expect they are being woken up during the night," she went on.

And her son asked to "move back in" on week nights, reasoning he needs "a proper night’s sleep so he can concentrate on going to work and do his job effectively."

The woman's husband branded the idea as "outrageous", suggesting the son should "get on with it", and the mum was left equally confused.

But she was not sure what she should do. "Surely other new parents don’t do this?" she questioned.

"I get sleep deprivation is hard, but I am not overly enamoured with this idea. But I don’t want to be unsupportive either - how would you respond?" she asked, concluding her post.

And fellow Mumsnet users were quick to blast the woman's son, with many left outraged by his proposal.

One person wrote: "You say no for the sake of his gf wellbeing."

A second agreed: "How would you have felt if he’d left you 5 days a week when DS was a baby?! Have a word with your son and tell him to grow up."

And a third added: "I think I’d be giving him a very sharp talking to about being a parent and not thinking it was acceptable to leave it all to his girlfriend. Silly, selfish boy."
