The enormously popular Netflix show Wednesday will return for season two, with the streaming service confirming Jenna Ortega will make a comeback in the Addams Family spin-off. Teenage Wednesday Addams battled blood thirsty beasts in the first series and is poised to meet even worse adversaries in the next series.
Speaking to Netflix's Tadum, showrunners Miles Millar and Alfred Gough said: "We can't wait to dive headfirst into another season and explore the kooky, spooky world of Nevermore. We just need to make sure Wednesday hasn't emptied the pool first.
"It's been incredible to create a show that’s connected with people across the world. We're thrilled to continue Wednesday's torturous journey into Season 2."
Season one of Wednesday was a hit with viewers and made multiple new streaming records. Netflix says Wednesday broke the platform's record for most hours viewed in a single week - including 341.23 million hours. In its second week, it soared to 411.29 million hours viewed.
Thanks to its distinct aesthetic, the series has been a in demand on social media, with the hashtag '#WednesdayAddams' amassing more than 22 billion views on TikTok. Even Lady Gaga couldn't resist posting her own version of the viral 'Blood Mary' dance.
Wednesday season two release date
Filming for season two of Wednesday has not started yet, meaning eager fans may have to wait until late 2024 at the earliest to watch the show's next episodes. The first season of Wednesday took a year and one month from filming to release, so expect a similar timeframe this time around.

Ortega will produce season two
In her March 2023 Elle cover interview, Ortega revealed that she is set to executive produce the second instalment of the series. The star is set to bring in major changes, with Wednesday confirmed to be "ditching" the love interest concept entirely and will be leaning "into the horror aspect of the show a little bit more".
