Nearly 1.8 Million Attic Ladders Recalled After 11 Reports of Bolts Breaking

Federal safety officials have recalled about 1,770,000 attic stairway ladders sold in American homes since 2012 after the company received reports that a bolt can break while someone is using the ladder. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced an action against Louisville Ladder, Inc., of Louisville, Kentucky, and told consumers to stop using the affected ladders immediately.

The recall covers Louisville, Featherlite, Lite, and Century attic stairway ladders equipped with gas struts. Louisville Ladder has received 11 reports of a bolt breaking, including one report of an injury to a person's neck, head, and back. About 13,054 additional units were sold in Canada under a joint notice with Health Canada.
