Dunleavy Jr., the son of longtime NBA coach Mike Dunleavy Sr., joined the Warriors in 2018 as a pro scout. Since joining Golden State’s front office, Dunleavy Jr. has risen through the rank alongside Bob Myers. Prior to being officially named general manager, Dunleavy worked alongside Myers as assistant general manager.
Before joining the front office, Dunleavy Jr. played 15 seasons in the NBA for six different franchises. Dunleavy Jr. started his NBA career with the Warriors after being drafted with the No. 3 overall out of Duke in the 2002 NBA draft.
Following the report of Dunleavy Jr. being elevated to Myers’ successor at the general manager position of the Warriors, the NBA community on Twitter chimed in with reactions. Here’s a look at what fans and analysts were saying about the Warriors’ latest move in the front office.

Dunleavy wanted Deni over Wiseman, and was pro Wagner over Kuminga, found Poole at 28 and we already getting reports that warriors are no longer interested in project draft picks and want older dudes who r over themselves? Yeah this dude might be the real thing lol

I know I shouldn’t be surprised but i am surprised by how many fans were unaware of Kirk and Dunleavy’s influence/impact in front office decisions over the years. People really think a GM just operates autonomously

It’ll always be amusing to me, there was not a more hated Warrior during the Cohan era than Mike Dunleavy, and now he’s one of more powerful people in the org

Mike Dunleavy Jr will do an excellent job as GM of the Warriors. Why? A lot of the same qualities Bob Myers’ has: loves scouting and player development, a hoop lifer who knows what the job requires.
I guess the biggest question with MDJ is how much power he’ll have? Final say?

Where are these reports coming from?
If true, sounds like Dunleavy likes players in his own playing mold over anything else. Seems promising. https://t.co/Ub11Fq0JdV— Shohei Ohtani Stan Account (@AndyKHLiu) June 16, 2023

Joking aside I’m cautiously hopeful about Dunleavy. He has been around the league “more” than anyone in GSW management—through his head coach dad, as a hyped draft pick, & various roles in multiple orgs in different stages. So he might have a better sense of timing & valuation.

Does Lacob understand that making Mike Dunleavy his new spokesmodel will have every bit the explosive potential with Warriors fans as his trade of Monta Ellis?

Good luck to Mike Dunleavy as Warriors GM. I believe he'll need it. Part of the job, I think, is dealing with Joe Lacob, a great owner. My impression is Lacob expects the GM to be available to him a lot of the time. This can make a good man weary.

I jumped with joy in my backyard when Dunleavy was traded. He was a useful player who didn’t have the character to live to his #3 draft slot, but he was a smart player who would fit well in today’s NBA. Curious to see how he does as GM considering he scouted Poole https://t.co/ZYuroeArls

More to come on the Warriors promoting Mike Dunleavy Jr. to GM, but I'll say this much: This feels like absolutely the right move. Golden State needed continuity more than anything right now. https://t.co/Cnp6WWitUA
