Navi Mumbai: Mangrove cell to install CCTVs in Kamothe

NAVI MUMBAI: The mangroves cell of Navi Mumbai has decided to install a few CCTV cameras and to have a check post in Kamothe to protect the mangroves from destruction. The decision came in the wake of visits by the mangrove cell officials along with Cidco officials. Frequent attempts to prevent water supply, fishing and illegal sand dredging are cited as reasons behind destroying mangroves. The Mangroves Cell officials first took up the joint survey of the 178 hectares mangroves land with Cidco. Further, they also examined complaints relating to the destruction of the mangroves. “In view of large-scale complaints and subsequent inspection, we have identified some locations to install CCTV cameras like - Mansarovar station, etc and check posts at strategic locations to monitor the movement of people, vehicles, dumping of debris etc,”said Sudhir Manjare, RFO Mangrove Cell.
