It’s not the holiday season in the Natural History Museum until the festive jumper has been revealed – and that time is now.
Naturally, no one other than the Christmas T. rex could model the museum’s Christmas knitwear range, which is part of the festive display on show in the Dinosaur Gallery.
The T.rex is sporting the holiday jumper, as well as a Christmas hat, with a background of seasonal decorations to boot.
“The annual unveiling of our Christmas T. rex display has become a firm favourite amongst our audiences, and we are delighted to kick off festivities at the Museum with our prehistoric pal,” said Adam Farrar, director of commercial and visitor experience at the Natural History Museum. “All proceeds from our Christmas range including our Christmas knitwear will continue to support our world-leading scientific research and public programming.”
This year’s festive design features red, blue, green and white, showcasing the museum’s latest prehistoric resident, Fern the Diplodocus.
The enormous golden giant found its home in the museum’s newly transformed gardens in July and is based on the model of the nation’s favourite dinosaur, Dippy.
The jumper also features a backdrop of the museum’s famed South Kensington building on the back, along with Christmas trees and Santa hats.
If you want the design but don’t want to splash out on the jumper, the festive design is also available in a scarf, hat and socks.
The winter collection has been exclusively created for the museum by notjust, a Manchester-based social enterprise and ethical factory, with 100% sustainable organic cotton.
“No challenge is too big for us and with this T.rex-sized Christmas jumper we think we’ve proved that point,” said Andrew Will of notjust clothing. “We’re proud to be working with the Natural History Museum on this larger-than-life knit and have revelled in the challenge of making our biggest Christmas jumper yet using a sustainable yarn.”
It’s free to visit the exhibit from now to January and the holiday range of products is available to buy at the museum or online. Jumpers cost £45, children’s jumpers £30, scarves £18, children’s hats £18 and adult socks £10.
