Nancy Meyers turned this simple storage piece into a decorative statement – it emphasizes why her films inspire our interiors

Nancy Meyers.

The Nancy Meyers aesthetic has been taking the world of interiors by storm for years, and truth be told, we are still loving it. The filmmaker's affinity for cozy, sophisticated spaces in films such as Something's Gotta Give and The Holiday has graced many a Pinterest board, and it turns out that the director's Instagram page serves just as much as a source of inspiration as her films themselves.

Case in point: one of Meyers' latest posts shows off a window nook, wherein she has hung a hat on the sill and keeps wicker baskets on the ledge, one of which houses a gorgeous bouquet of flowers. The organic materials lean into a trend-forward, rustic-modern appearance, while the practicality of the baskets is uncountable.

A visually pleasing option in the realm of home storage solutions, hand-crafted baskets are a staple within homes thanks to their multi-purpose nature and ability to keep rooms tidy.

'Storage baskets have transcended their utilitarian origins to become essential elements of home decor,' says designer Nina Lichtenstein. 'These versatile containers not only offer practical solutions for organizing clutter but also add texture, warmth, and rustic charm to any space. Here’s how you can incorporate storage baskets into different rooms of your home, balancing both function and style.'

The beauty of storage baskets is they can be placed in practically any room in a home as needed. However, Lichtenstein explains that depending on which space they are placed in, there are some considerations to be made when selecting a basket.

'In the living room, storage baskets are ideal for keeping blankets, magazines, and remote controls neatly contained,' she says. 'Opt for larger woven baskets to hold throws and pillows, making them easily accessible for cozy movie nights. Smaller baskets can be placed on shelves or under coffee tables to hide away remote controls, coasters, and other small items. Choose baskets in neutral tones or natural materials like rattan or seagrass to complement a variety of decor styles, from modern to bohemian.'

Another great place to put storage baskets on display is at the front of the home, where clutter can often pile up.

'The entryway is the first impression of your home, and storage baskets can help keep it tidy and welcoming,' Lichtenstein explains. 'Use large baskets to store shoes, umbrellas, and bags, ensuring these items are easy to grab as you head out the door. Smaller baskets on a console table can hold keys, mail, and other small essentials. Choose baskets that are durable and easy to clean, as the entryway tends to be a high-traffic area. Adding a decorative touch, such as a patterned lining or a pop of color, can make your entryway both practical and stylish.'

Finally, when it comes to styling storage baskets, Lichtenstein says experimenting with a variety of baskets is a great way to maintain a balanced space.'Don’t be afraid to mix different styles and sizes of baskets within a room,' she says. 'This can add visual interest and prevent the space from looking too uniform.'

She continues, 'Combine baskets with other textures, such as plush throws, sleek metal accents, or soft textiles, to create a rich and inviting atmosphere.' For a Meyers-inspired aesthetic, we especially love these pieces from Pottery Barn, designed to turn storage into a stylish statement, much like the filmmaker has done. Similarly, this tray from McGee & Co. taps into her set-up.

We love how Meyers used her wicker basket for flowers – when doing so, just ensure that any holes or gaps in the wicker basket are covered on the bottom so as not to get surfaces dirty. We also love utilizing a wicker basket for laundry, or as storage for linens.
