'My friend wants to get married in the same month as me - it's so selfish'

A woman has sparked a huge debate online after reserving the entirety of her wedding month once her best friend claimed she was planning to get married within 'weeks' of the same date.

The bride-to-be admitted her 'jealously' online after discovering that both weddings will fall in September 2024.

Taking to popular forum site Reddit, the anonymous user explained that her best friend since college will play the vital role of maid of honour on the special day

While she'll be there to witness the wholesome moment front row, the bride admits that her friend is 'somewhat self-centered' - but can be 'very sweet'.

After the woman's friend and her new boyfriend got together last year, she has been anticipating her wedding despite not being engaged yet.

The Reddit user explained: "They will likely get engaged in the coming months. She wants to get married in Italy, which we've known (ever since the night we got engaged, when she shared this idea).

"Last week, she said that because the summer is too hot and spring was too close, she was thinking of doing her Italy wedding in September 2024, our wedding month.

"I told her they're welcome to do their wedding whenever makes the most sense for them and we didn't even care if theirs was before ours, but warned that I felt having our weddings within a few weeks of each other would be stressful, as we'll all be playing large parts in both weddings, both sets of friends and families will have to travel and take work off right around the same time, etc.

"I'm aware that a portion of this issue is jealousy on my part - she's closer with our college friends and a better planner than I am and will no doubt throw a super over-the-top Italian wedding and I don't want to feel like we're competing. That is something I'll have to work on.

"I'm not going to force them to set a date farther away and have already stated the potential complications. I want to be happy for her..."

Seeking advice, she questioned: "Am I the a**hole for being annoyed that she's not even engaged yet and though there's still a year and a half until our wedding she wants to take all our family and both sets of friends to her destination wedding within a couple weeks of mine?"

She added: "I feel like I've been so chill and accommodating over the years and don't want my things to take a back seat again with my over-the-top, somewhat self-centered friend, and add even more anxiety to the whole wedding planning process."

Flocking to the comment section, Reddit users assured the bride-to-be that she wasn't being unreasonable for reserving her wedding month.

One person wrote: "Not the a**hole. It sounds to me like your friend is jealous that your bf proposed and hers hasn't."

Meanwhile, a different user penned: "She's not engaged, but is planning her wedding? I don't understand people like this."
