MUMBAI: In the end, there was no Asian Games qualification nor was there an expected Sudha Singh victory in the Indian section of the Tata Mumbai Marathon on Sunday.
Gopi Thonakkal walked away with victory in 2:16. 41 while Chavi Yadav willed herself to a 2:50. 35 triumph. The favourite, Sudha Singh, thought it would be prudent to quit rather than battle cramps. And all this on a day when Mumbai experienced one of the coldest weathers in the recent history of the event. Gopi was followed by Man Singh, who clocked 2:16. 58, while nearly three minutes behind Man was Kalidas Hirave in at 2:19.54. Srinu Bugatha finished fifth clocking 2:23.55.
