Mum uses spreadsheet hack to feed family of five for £65 a week at Asda

A mum-of-three has revealed how she manages to feed her family of five for around £65 a week using Asda's Just Essentials range. Jody Jones, from Bangor in Gwynedd, uses Microsoft Excel spreadsheets to plan out exactly what she needs to buy, after becoming increasingly worried about how the cost of living crisis would affect her family's life.

The 37-year-old, who works at her local Asda store, has created four detailed shopping lists and four food plans, as well as a four-week shopping list for cleaning products, in an attempt to keep the cost of her shopping down, WalesOnline reports. Aside from the cleaning products, all of the items in her lists are part of the new Just Essentials range, introduced by the supermarket giant earlier this year.

Jody said she noticed that the new range, which replaced the Smart Price range, had received mixed reviews from some shoppers - who complained that the bright yellow packaging was a "poverty marker" that was "embarrassing poorer families". But she was eager to try to use the new range to reduce her weekly shopping bills and managed to do so - she now spends an average of £62 a week, while before she had been forking out more than £100 a week.
