Naming your little bundle of joy is one of the biggest decisions new parents have to make. Both parties have to agree on the moniker, and it ultimately has to suit your kid down to a T - they'll have if for the rest of their lives, after all.
Many parents-to-be opt for traditional names for their children, whereas others will favour more modern, celebrity-led names to make their little one stand out.
The latter can cause controversy, and one bloke is seething at his sister who he claims sees "children as fashion statements" as she revealed her unusual baby name choice.
The man explained that he's always resented his 'hippy' parents for giving him a name that's usually chosen for women, leaving him traumatised and 'bullied'. Now, he's concerned that his sister is giving her daughter the same fate.
The man took to Reddit's 'Am I the a**hole' forum to explain that there were multiple reasons why he wasn't a fan of the name his sister has chosen for her daughter.
He wrote: "My sister is pregnant with her first child. A girl. She and her husband are ecstatic, it just sucks that she inherited my parent's stupid propensity to see their children as fashion statements. Last night, she revealed to the family the name of her daughter."
He really wasn't impressed with the suggested title, explaining that his mum had "helped come up with the name".
He continued: "It's Krxstxl. She wants to name her daughter Krxstxl. Confused, the name is pronounced Crystal. I already don't like that name but it's at least appropriate. I was not surprised to learn that my mum helped come up with the name.
"When she told me, I told her it was a terrible idea. If she wants to name her Crystal, name her Crystal. She tried to explain to me why the x's are there and I just told her it does not matter. She's naming a human, not a dog. I don't care what kind of fashion statement she's trying to make, this is a person who will have to live with that name until they die or has it changed.
"She and my mum brushed me off as just complaining because I was never able to accept my name. I told my sister she was being either selfish, stupid, or an incredibly strong combination of the two if she thinks her daughter will want a stupid name like Krxstxl.
"We got into an argument and I told her I already see her and her husband as s***** parents for using their kid to be off-brand with her name and left right after.
"My sister is not taking it well at all and my mum is furious with me. I'm starting to wonder if I was too harsh. I will not change my opinion on that incredibly stupid name. But I'm wondering if branding her as a s***** parent was too far."
People in the comments also felt passionately about the child's name, saying it was cruel.
One wrote: "As someone who changed their name the moment they turned 18, you're right. She is stupid. You're not the a**hole. It's a horrendous name that will do nothing but get the child bullied.
"It's not 'unique' or cute. Her child is not an accessory. I personally think stupid c*** like this should fall under child abuse."
Someone else said: "I had a student named this. Signed her name Kris on everything. Didn't even try to tell me how to pronounce it, just said please call me Kris. Definitely not the a**hole."
Another joked: "I had a client called Dysentery once upon a time. Her parents thought that the name sounded 'mysterious and delicate'. There are some WILD parents out there."
