Spartans star goaltender Trey Augustine picked up his first shutout of the season on Friday night in a 3-0 Spartans victory over Canisius.
Augustine recorded 15 saves in the shutout — which was the fourth of his career. Behind Augustine’s strong play, the Spartans improved to 4-1 on the year.
Michigan State didn’t find the back of the net until midway through the second period, with Tanner Kelly scoring to get the Spartans on the board. That 1-0 lead would carry deep into the third period before Michigan State added insurance to its lead. Joey Larson and Daniel Russell picked up power play goals less than 30 seconds apart in the final five minutes of the game to seal the Spartans’ victory.
Michigan State will look to complete the two-game road series sweep on Saturday evening. Faceoff between Michigan State and Canisius is schedueld for 7 p.m. ET in Buffalo, N.Y.
