Powers Boothe stars as Dr. Philip Beseech, a police forensic psychiatrist who frequently testifies in high-profile cases. Though Ellen reluctantly agrees to work on their marriage, Philip soon catches the eye of a young, beautiful transcriptionist named Corrie Calvin (Lisa Collins).
What starts as innocent small talk quickly takes a dark turn. Corrie begins invading his personal life, even showing up uninvited at his child’s birthday party. The intrusion rattles Philip so badly that he drops the birthday cake, baffling his family and raising his wife's suspicions. When silent prank calls and mysterious flower deliveries follow, Philip realizes he has no choice but to confront her.
They meet at a nearby restaurant, where Philip firmly rejects her and demands she leave him alone. Dismissive and unfazed by his rejection, Corrie remains chillingly calm, while a frustrated Philip accidentally cuts his hand on a broken glass. Why I recommend you stream 'Web of Deception'
While "Web of Deception" is no "Fatal Attraction," it stands as a worthy, close second. Though there was technically no affair between the two characters this time around, Corrie’s relentless attempts to force a relationship still utterly derail Philip's life. Plus, the lack of an actual affair doesn’t make him entirely innocent; we find out during the trial that he has kept two other secret relationships hidden from his wife.
Lisa Collins plays the beautiful but deeply troubled young woman surprisingly well. With every coy expression and dazzling smile, she manages to project a disconcerting aura that instantly sets the audience on edge. I’m actually surprised we haven’t seen her in more mainstream films.
The movie is not without its plot holes, as it’s a bit hard to believe that the police forensics team wouldn’t immediately see the crime scene as clearly staged. But those minor flaws don’t make the experience any less enjoyable. It’s a perfect popcorn mystery that will keep you completely roped in right up until the final frame.
