Monsters Inc star John Goodman, 70, unrecognisable as he opens up on dramatic 14 stone weight loss

Hollywood legend John Goodman has showed off his dramatic weight loss after losing a whopping 14.3 stone - and has shared his secrets behind shedding the pounds. Pictured looking slim at the 62nd Monte Carlo TV Festival in Monaco on Sunday, Goodman has now lost the weight of the average UK man from his frame.

The Monsters Inc voice actor previously weighed as much as 28 stone but has taken significant lifestyle changes to slim down and stay healthy. Back in 2007, the actor stopped drinking alcohol and from there, he started losing weight.

The Mirror reports that his personal trainer, Mackie Shilstone, helped the actor take his weight loss further by introducing Goodman to a "Mediterranean-style eating plan". This diet means eating whole grains, fruits, vegetables, seafood, beans and nuts, while minimising ultra-processed foods and consumption of red meat.

Goodman says he combines this with working out six days a week, making sure he does 10,000 to 12,000 steps a day. In 2017, The Righteous Gemstones star opened up about his weight to ABC.

He said: "In the old days, I would take three months out, lose 60 or 70 pounds, and then reward myself with a six-pack or whatever and just go back to my old habits. This time I wanted to do it slowly.

"Move, exercise. I'm getting to the age where I can't afford to sit still anymore." He also told American broadcaster Howard Stern: "I took it slow. I just wanted to change my lifestyle", and admitted his new way of living is "an ongoing process for the rest of my life."

His new lifestyle is working and stepped onto the red carpet in Mote Carlo as jury president at the festival. He also spoke about the decision to make John jury president.

Festival organiser Laurent Puons said: "John Goodman is, quite frankly, a legend. My grandson loves him, my mother loves him and I love him. He's crossed several generations with a phenomenal film career, and a phenomenal television career."

Speaking to Variety, Laurent added: "He's done it all, played every role. If he wasn't leading the jury, we'd give him our lifetime achievement award."
