With the AI hype cycle reaching fever pitch, a new geegaw has broken out of the tech enclave to capture the general public’s attention. Moltbook, a “social network for bots”, drew breathless headlines about how it signalled the end of humanity. Why was it created? Perhaps because, to quote Jurassic Park, some coders were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.
Before Moltbook came to be, there were the bots. Specifically, Clawdbot, an AI personal assistant created through “vibe coding”(AI-assisted code writing) by Austrian developer Peter Steinberger and released into the wild last November. By giving Clawdbot full access to your personal devices, it can manage an email inbox, organise a calendar, build websites and even perform tasks such as booking and checking in for a flight online, directed via a chat app such as WhatsApp.
