A night out, a holiday, and someone else's wedding day are among the top occasions when Brits are most likely to enjoy an alcoholic tipple, a study has found. But nearly one in ten (seven per cent) have even knocked back a drink for courage before a job interview, and 10 per cent have done so before a video call.
The poll of 2,000 adults who drink found that one in six admitted they feel they are the best version of themselves when drinking alcohol – with half (49 per cent) feeling they need it before a social event, to boost confidence. The top occasions where Brits feel they need a drink to improve their confidence include family gatherings (43 per cent), the first social outing with new colleagues (25 per cent), and catching a flight (23 per cent).
And more than half of Brits (55 per cent) drink to feel their best when on nights out, on holiday (48 per cent), or at someone else's wedding (43 per cent). The research was commissioned by alcohol-free spirit, SENTIA, co-founded by neuroscientist Professor David Nutt – who has created an alcohol-free beverage that literally “takes the edge off”.
