A Midlothian farmer's bid to move a vehicle entrance to his land away from a village road has been blocked by planners concerned about safety.
George Pirie won his battle to build a house and agricultural buildings at Whitehill Farm, near Dalkeith, so he can establish a herd of Aberdeen Angus cattle on the land in October last year.
However his plans met with objections from villagers concerned a new access road for the business was planned to come onto the historic Roman road, Dere Street, which goes into Whitehill village.

Now his application to change the access to an entrance already used by farm vehicles on a 60 mile an hour road has been rejected by planners who say it is too dangerous.
The alternative access was suggested at a meeting of Midlothian Local Review Body where councillors approved the original plans but asked, along with the applicant and local residents, if the A6106 could be used.
A report on the application to change the route by officers said: "The applicant’s agent states this is the preferred access for approved house which was looked on sympathetically when considered by the Local Review Body.
"The proposed road would mean the previously approved access to the house, which ran south and east onto Whitehill Road, is not necessary, which may address concerns from the local community."
However they said: "The proposed access road would use an existing field access onto the A6106.
"While this is in use at present, and appears to be operating at a satisfactory level, this is as a field access with minimal vehicular movements.
"The proposed use is to serve a house and farm buildings which would significantly intensify the use of this access.
"The A6106 has a 60mph speed limit, meaning the required visibility splay is 215 metres in each direction. The sightline to the west will still only be 170 metres, less than the minimum length required."
