After years of will he-won’t he, one of the most divisive figures in the Big Ten is heading back to the NFL. With multiple controversies still hanging over the Wolverines, Jim Harbaugh is finally leaving Michigan football to join the Los Angeles Chargers as their next head coach.
Given how polarizing a figure Harbaugh has always been, it’s not surprising that a lot of people, including Michigan State fans and media, took to social media to talk about the move.
You can see some of those reactions below.
This fall will be the first time since 1995 that both MSU (Nick Saban) and Michigan (Lloyd Carr) will have new football coaches in the same season. Spartans hired Jonathan Smith in November to replace Mel Tucker, who was fired during the 2023 season. https://t.co/WO1T1jXrJ7

Sherrone Moore is getting the Michigan job within 3 days. We can skip the hot boards of Bill Belichick, Nick Saban, & Brad Stevens.

Got a NFL team to finally acquiesce to all of his demands. https://t.co/VrqQUkpp0R

There it is…
Will be interesting to see how quickly UM gets their new guy. Could set off a chain reaction of more coaching moves in college football or could simply be the obvious inside hire with Moore. https://t.co/GtK4iAuHln

The only logical take about this: Jim Harbaugh is terrified of Jonathan Smith https://t.co/QWZxPDCA1a

Given the length of Jim Harbaugh’s flirtation with the NFL this month, the brass at Michigan should already know entirely if Sherrone Moore is their choice. Can’t imagine it takes more than a day to announce.

Jonathan Smith had now chased Nick Saban and Jim Harbaugh out of college football.
incredible hire by Alan Haller.

Have fun in the NFL, coach. You were always an easy target but I can't say you'll be missed by many, lmao. pic.twitter.com/iRaAR2oCLN

Nothing snarky to say. Cheated his way to the ultimate goal and is out the door before punishment even comes. That’s simply the American dream. A trade all parties involved would take 10/10 times.

Salute to Jim Harbaugh. He came to Michigan, did what he set out to do by any means necessary and is getting out of dodge before he faces any of the consequences. All time stuff.

I know an in-house guy Michigan can hire.
Good at winning big games exclusively in November. Not sure about the other months, but who cares?
Preaches physicality and tenacity too. Make the promotion Warde. pic.twitter.com/RlrzleM5pe
