THE SNP’s former deputy Westminster leader Mhairi Black has revealed whether she will stand as a candidate in the 2026 Holyrood election ... in the most Mhairi Black way.
Black gave followers a warning about her news after SNP Westminster leader Stephen Flynn splashed his announcement on the front of the newspapers this morning, causing discontent from some in the party.
She wrote: "I hear journalists are wondering if I’ve put my name in for the Scottish Parliament.
"Big news re 2026 coming in the next hour … watch this space."
With eager followers and media refreshing her feed, I'm sure not many would have expected Scottish comedian Limmy to break the news, even if the answer was one that could have been predicted.
Black wrote "I'm not", sharing a Gif of Limmy making one of his trademark expressions.
Black won the seat of Paisley and Renfrewshire South in 2015 with a massive 27% swing and unseated Labour’s Douglas Alexander, then shadow foreign secretary, who had held the seat since 1997.
Announcing she would not be standing as an MP again, Black said she was tired of Westminster’s “toxic environment”.
In a statement, she also highlighted the impact of life as an MP, saying she wanted to now spend “more time with my loved ones in a safer environment”.
Not many then expected her to throw her hat in for Holyrood, although many members and Scots alike would've liked to see her head to head with the Scottish Labour cohort.
