Metropolitan Police officers are searching two properties tied to Peter Mendelson, a spokesperson has confirmed.
It comes less than a week after three million files relating to the sex offender Jeffrey Epstein were released by the U.S. Department of Justice, which included emails from Mandelson.
A spokesperson said that a property in London and another in Wiltshire are currently being searched as part of an investigation into possible misconduct in a public office.
“I can confirm that officers from the Met’s Central Specialist Crime team are in the process of carrying out search warrants at two addresses, one in the Wiltshire area, and another in the Camden aream” said Deputy Assistant Commissioner Hayley Sewart, of the Metropolitan Police.
"The searches are related to an ongoing investigation into misconduct in public office offences, involving a 72-year-old man.

“He has not been arrested and enquiries are ongoing.”
Mandelson has not yet commented publicly on the police investigation.
The news comes days after police said they had launched a probe into the former government minister for alleged misconduct in public office.
Confirming the formal investigation, Met Police officers said they had “received a number of reports into alleged misconduct in public office, including a referral from the UK government.”
Days earlier, a large number of emails were released as part of the Epstein files, revealing regular contact between the UK politician and the disgraced financier.
In their emails, Mandelson and Epstein discussed everything from politics and business deals to his personal life, prompting demands from British political ranks that Mandelson face consequences for his actions.
He also received a total of $75,000 (£54,000) from Epstein, with bank statements showing the transactions despite Mandelson saying he does not recall receiving the money.
Keir Starmer said Mandelson had “let his country down”.
Since then, Starmer’s decision to appoint Mandelson as US ambassador has also come under scrutiny.
Mandelson was dismissed as ambassador in 2025, and this week he has also resigned from Labour and the House of Lords.
Earlier today, the lobbying firm co-founded by Mandelson said it had also cut all ties with the former US ambassador.
