Met offices gives weather verdict on reports of -4C freeze

If you had to scrape ice from your car windows this morning then you'll know that it's a bit nippy out there, but reports of -4C, emergency measures and bitterly cold nights have been reported by some news organisations. What does the UK Met Office have to say about the reports? Could Nottingham and the county escape the worst of it despite weather warnings in force for the some parts of UK?

Snow has been forecast in the next 48 hours for some areas on the UK, reported the Mirror today, Tuesday, February 7. Chilly overnight temperatures promoted several regional UK leaders to enable the Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) including the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan. The SWEP means that urgent assistance is offered to rough sleepers during adverse conditions with those who are eligible and agree, provided with places to stay to prevent them sleeping in the cold..

But while some parts of the UK saw temperatures as low as -4C, Nottingham and the surrounding county looks set to miss the lowest temperatures. There are no warnings in place for us with regard of freezing temperatures, however, a spokesperson for the Met Office said fog could be an issue. They said: "There isn’t a warning out at the moment given there is a bit of uncertainty still with regards to the extent and density of fog patches.

“But there might be one issued overnight once we start to see things forming and when we have more of an idea about how things are panning out..”

Today, Tuesday, February 7, the Met office says that while it will be sunny and we can enjoy highs of 7C, the temperature will drop to -1 in the early hours of Wednesday morning, with a 'feels like' temperature of -3C by 4am.

Temperatures for the rest of the week are looking more appealing with positive figures expected as far as Monday, February 13. Here's how the next seven days looks, according to the Met Office.
