The Government has extended a "severe" cold weather warning into the weekend and is urging people to keep safe and check in on others.
The Met Office has given an update on the level 3 cold weather alert, which means temperatures of 2C or less and/or widespread ice and heavy snow. It is now in place until midday on Saturday (January 28).
It said the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has called on social and healthcare services to take specific actions to help protect high-risk groups.

Met Office advice urges people to "look out for friends and family who may be vulnerable to the cold, and ensure they have access to warm food and drinks and are managing to heat their homes adequately".
It adds: "Try to maintain indoor temperatures to at least 18C, particularly if you are not mobile, have a long-term illness or are 65 or over. Avoid exposing yourself to cold or icy outdoor conditions if you are at a higher risk of cold-related illness or falls and stay up to date with the latest weather forecasts on the Met Office website".
The warning includes all areas of England, though Liverpool is predicted to fare slightly better than other parts of the country. It is forecast to stay largely dry today and tomorrow (Friday), with lows of 3C and 4C that feel more like 1C.
It will turn milder on Saturday, with highs of 7C that feel more like 4C, though there is chance of some showers.
