Met Eireann has issued a Status Yellow ice warning for the entire country, with the public warned that untreated roads and footpaths may be "hazardous" due to icy patches.
The warning comes into effect from 6pm this evening until noon on Monday. Met Eireann said: "Icy stretches are likely on Sunday night and Monday morning. Hazardous travelling conditions are expected, especially on untreated roads and footpaths. Some patches of freezing fog are also possible."
The Road Safety Authority (RSA) has urged motorists to check their tyres ahead of the cold snap, warning that if the thread depth of a tyre falls below 3mm, then it should be replaced. Met Eireann has also forecast that an 'Arctic blast' will bring snow and wintry showers, with a weather advisory in effect until Thursday afternoon.
