Met Eireann has issued a Status Orange snow and ice weather warning for most of the country.
The warning takes effect from 11am this Thursday until 10am on Friday morning.
Met Eireann has stressed that the upgraded warning, denoting infrequent and dangerous weather conditions, will cause very hazardous road conditions, travel disruption and poor visibility.

They said: "Further spells of sleet and snow today combined with strong east to northeast winds. Significant accumulations of snow are expected in some areas along with icy conditions."
The counties affected are Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Clare, Connacht, Longford, Louth, Meath and Westmeath.
The national forecaster has also issued a further status orange snow and ice warning for other counties.
Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Offaly, Wexford, Wicklow and Tipperary will be affected from the warning which kicks in at 9pm this Thursday night until Friday at 10am.
Met Éireann said: "Further spells of sleet and snow today combined with strong northerly winds. Significant accumulations of snow are expected in some areas along with icy conditions."
"Lying snow and sub-zero temperatures overnight leading to icy stretches," the warning added.
