Met Eireann give bleak Easter weather forecast and update on misery on the way next week

Met Éireann has issued a bleak weather forecast for the Easter bank holiday weekend.

The national forecaster has offered an unfortunate u-turn on its earlier weather predictions for the busy four-day bank holiday weekend.

While Thursday and Friday are expected to remain largely dry with sunny spells and temperatures of up to 12 and 14 degrees celsius, respectively, rain and showers are due to set in for the remainder of the weekend.

Speaking about Friday night, Met Éireann warned that there will be "persistent outbreaks of rain" which will start pushing in to Atlantic coasts by Saturday morning.

For Saturday, they wrote: "Cloudy and wet with persistent outbreaks of rain in the west gradually extending across the country. Highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees in light to moderate southerly breezes."

Saturday night is expected to bring a few isolated patches of rain, however most areas will remain dry.

On Sunday, Met Éireann wrote that it will be generally dry at first with some early bright spells.

"In the afternoon, a band of showery rain will then push in from the west, mainly affecting Atlantic coastal counties while parts of the east may remain dry," they said.

Bank holiday Easter Monday will have a cloudy and wet start with outbreaks of rain in many areas.

"By the afternoon though, the rain will largely clear eastwards with a mix of bright spells and scattered showers following from the west. Maximum temperatures of 10 to 14 degrees in light westerly breezes," they added.
