MIAMI — Lionel Messi fans will have to wait to secure tickets from Inter Miami to see him play in person.
Inter Miami announced late Thursday afternoon that the team’s 8 p.m. Leagues Cup opener against Cruz Azul at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale is sold out.
“The highly anticipated matchup marks the first time the newest superstar signings Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets will be available for selection for Inter Miami CF, as well as head coach Tata Martino’s second game since being named Head Coach,’’ the team release said.
Though the game is sold out, limited tickets were still available Thursday evening via the secondary market.
Leagues Cup is a new tournament in which MLS and LIGA MX will pause their respective league seasons from July 21 to August 19 to determine the three clubs that will qualify for the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup. All 47 first division clubs in Canada, Mexico and the US will compete in World Cup-style.
The release said Inter Miami will host Atlanta United on Tuesday in its second match of the Leagues Cup tournament. Tickets for the match against Atlanta United are available.
