Medical officers asked to monitor C-Section deliveries

Minister for Health T. Harish Rao has directed District Medical and Health Officers (DMHO), and additional DMHOs to look into the soaring number of Caesarean deliveries in private healthcare facilities. A detailed examination of the reasons for performing C-section deliveries at government as well as private facilities would also be taken up.

The Minister held a tele-conference with senior health officials and ground-level staff on Sunday. Accredited Social Health Activists, Auxiliary Nursing Midwives and medical officers from Primary Health Centres and sub centres also attended the review meeting which focussed on increasing normal deliveries.

It was also decided that the work of gynaecologists in government hospitals would also be examined to understand the reasons behind them opting for a particular type of delivery. The health staff were asked to speak about ground realities at the review meeting, which would now be held every month, Mr Harish Rao said.

Awards for best HCWs

Officials and staff who have performed efficiently would receive awards/ special recognitions on April 7 on the occasion of World Health Day. Mr Harish Rao said three healthcare workers would be selected from each wing of the Health department. Such awards would be presented every three months.

The Minister stressed that along with recognition, action would be taken against those who are inefficient.

He added that Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare Vakati Karuna and Director of Public Health G. Srinivasa Rao would hold surprise visits to one district per week.
