Christian Horner declared the "big wound" suffered by Max Verstappen in qualifying on Saturday was behind the Dutchman's failure to secure the 2022 drivers' title at the first opportunity.
Verstappen's lead in the Formula 1 standings is so imperious that he could have been declared champion with victory at the Singapore Grand Prix. Had that happened, only Michael Schumacher could claim to have won the title with more races remaining in a season.
But it wasn't to be, as the Red Bull star endured a less-than-ideal weekend overall. Instead of extending his streak of race wins to six, Verstappen could manage only seventh place on F1's first visit to Marina Bay since 2019.
