Matthew McConaughey's eldest son has joined social media as a birthday present, with the actor's wife Camila Alves having admitted she was "a little nervous" over it.
Levi Alves McConaughey, now 15, joined Instagram just a few days ago after his parents considered the possibility for "a long time" before allowing him to join the platform.
Matthew and Camila announced that their eldest child was joining the platform in a video that was shared on their accounts a few days ago to celebrate Levi's birthday.
Marking the occasion, Matthew commented: "Happy birthday Levi Alves McConaughey." Camila then said: "Can you believe it?" Her husband added: "Fifteen years young."
He continued: "Hey, buddy, your mom is a little nervous today about one of the gifts we are giving you, yes, we are allowing you today [...] to join the social media universe."
The couple - who have been married since 2012 - said they had been discussing the possibility for "a long time," saying that there had been conversations about it for three years.
Camila continued by saying: "All his friends have had it for a long time. We've been holding up." Matthew added: "He knows who he is, and he knows where he’s going. I think he can handle it. He’s got a great story to tell and share."
He continued: "I wanna let all y'all know, you're getting a very cool and respectful young man in Levi coming at ya and I hope y'all can do your best to treat him the same way."
Matthew addressed his son, saying: "Enjoy the adventure, [...] sharing your story, expressing yourself and what you put out there and the exchange you get with people out there."
The couple - who have three children together - concluded by sharing well-wishes and encouraging fans to support Levi. Camila said: "Happy birthday, go check him out."
The post amassed more than 400,000 likes on the platform and prompted a response from Levi. He replied in the comments section: "Mamma and Papai thank you".
Matthew and Camila tagged his account in their post, with Levi already having 163,000 followers on the platform. He shared his first post on his account just a few days ago.
Levi introduced himself with a compilation video that showed moments from his life - including clips of him surfing, snowboarding and hanging out with his family.
He began the video by saying: "Hi, I'm Levi". The rest of the montage featured a voiceover from his father's role as David Wooderson in the film Dazed and Confused (1993).
The voiceover was heard commenting: "Let me tell you this, the older you do get the more rules they're gonna try to get you to follow. You just gotta keep livin' man, L-I-V-I-N."
