The 2022 Gold Glove winners in Major League Baseball have been revealed, with several players earning the prestigious fielding honor for the first time.

San Francisco Giants' third baseman Matt Chapman secured his fifth Gold Glove, while Kansas City Royals' shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. was among the 14 first-time winners.

Other notable winners include Cleveland Guardians' second baseman Andrés Giménez and left fielder Steven Kwan, who both clinched their third consecutive Gold Gloves. Arizona Diamondbacks' first baseman Christian Walker, Chicago Cubs' left fielder Ian Happ, and Colorado Rockies' center fielder Brenton Doyle also retained their titles from the previous year.

Chapman, who previously won three Gold Gloves with the Oakland Athletics and one with the Toronto Blue Jays, expressed his excitement at winning his first Gold Glove in the National League.

Several teams had multiple winners, with the Guardians, Rockies, Royals, Milwaukee Brewers, Giants, and Seattle Mariners each boasting two Gold Glove recipients.

Among the first-time winners in the American League were Seth Lugo (Royals), Cal Raleigh (Mariners), Carlos Santana (Twins), Alex Bregman (Astros), Daulton Varsho (Blue Jays), Wilyer Abreu (Red Sox), and Dylan Moore (Mariners).

In the National League, newcomers included Chris Sale (Braves), Patrick Bailey (Giants), Brice Turang (Brewers), Sal Frelick (Brewers), Ezequiel Tovar (Rockies), and Jared Triolo (Pirates).

Players such as Bregman, Giménez, Lugo, Moore, and Witt received cash bonuses for their Gold Glove achievements.

Voting for the Gold Glove awards was conducted by managers and coaches from each team, with additional input from the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) defensive index.

Overall, the 2022 Gold Glove winners represent a mix of seasoned veterans and talented newcomers who have excelled in the art of fielding in Major League Baseball.
