Matchroom vs Queensberry 5v5 LIVE!
Queensberry are celebrating a 10-0 whitewash of Matchroom in Saturday night’s unique boxing team event in Saudi Arabia. Eddie Hearn's quintet got off to a disastrous start at Riyadh's Kingdom Arena, with Craig Richards upset by Willy Hutchinson. They then went 2-0 down after Liverpool’s Nick Ball outlasted Raymond Ford in a 12-round war to claim the WBA featherweight world title.
Matchroom later saw Austin 'Ammo' Williams dominated and stopped by Hamzah Sheeraz in a final eliminator for the WBC middleweight strap, with double points successfully claimed by the Queensberry captain. Matchroom could only hope to draw proceedings from there, though saw even those hopes dashed as Filip Hrgovic was beaten by Daniel Dubois in a battle for the IBF interim heavyweight title and a likely Wembley contest with Anthony Joshua in September. The night ended with Matchroom captain Deontay Wilder potentially being pushed into retirement by a brutal fifth-round stoppage by Zhilei Zhang.
Away from the 5v5 action in Riyadh on Saturday, Dmitry Bivol stopped late replacement opponent Malik Zinad in round six before confirmation that his postponed undisputed clash with fellow light-heavyweight world champion Artur Beterbiev will now take place on October 12.
