MasterChef is moving to Birmingham as TV bosses hail its 'great' culinary scene

MasterChef will move to Birmingham after TV bosses hailed its “great” culinary scene.

All versions of the cookery show, hosted by John Torode and Gregg Wallace, will be made at a new studio complex in Digbeth from 2024 as part of the BBC ’s Across the UK plan.

Jon Swain, of show producers Shine TV, said: “Moving production to one of the country’s most diverse cities will allow us to invigorate the programme.”

In the most recent series of Celebrity MasterChef, Reverend Richard Coles was crowned the champion.

The star beat reality star Gemma Collins, TV Presenter Joe Swash, entertainer Les Dennis, singer Mica Paris to win the Golden Whisk trophy.

Coles said: “I am absolutely delighted, this is wonderful. I think the parish will want to take the whisk in procession around the town where the towns people will come out and fall to their knees and worship the historic and holy golden whisk of MasterChef.”

His winning Christmas-themed menu which he created in just two hours 15 minutes started with a roast partridge with a caramelized pear, cabbage, celeriac, chestnut and lardons with bread sauce, pear gravy and five gold ring potatoes. Gregg described the dish as ‘a seriously good piece of cookery’.

Richard then presented Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh blancmanges topped with honeycomb, pistachio and liquorice crumb with John Torode contently describing them as “Delightful.”

Judge Gregg Wallace said: “Reverend Richard Coles worked really hard to bring as much of the Christmas story into his plates of food which was really clever. It was absolutely beautiful cookery with a bit of fun. Every single mouthful just screamed out Christmas.”

John Torode added: “A festive feast needs to be fun, it needs to put a smile on your face, it needs to be delicious and Richard did that. It was clever, ambitious, interesting and delicious.”

Comedian Judi Love won the previous Celebrity episode beating Oti Mabuse, ex-footballer Neil Ruddock, and Su Pollard to win one of two golden whisk trophies up for grabs this year.
